LCD tv’s have been around for a while.  As they have grown larger they have gained a large amount of the HDTV market share.  It remains to be seen how the 3D market will break down when everything is said and done.

LCD tv’s are currently in decline not because of new technology but simply because of labeling.  Many new tv’s are listed as LED televisions.  These still use LCD screens but instead of fluoresent lighting, they use LED’s.  This creates better color but also increases the price.
